Tawny Eagle - Aquila rapax rapax

Range: There are several sub-species of Tawny Eagle, ours originate from Southern Africa.
Conservation Status: Common
Habitat: Savannah and Open Wooldand
Diet: Mainly carrion but small rodents, lizards and invertebrates also form part of the diet.
Other Information: Three sub-species of Tawny Eagle are found, one in India, the other two in Africa. They are non-migratory and were previously considered to be related to the migratory Steppe Eagle from Central/Eastern Europe and Russia. However genetica analysis has proved that they are very different. The Steppe Eagle also migrates during the winter months to Africa.
