African White Backed Vulture - Gyps africanus

African White Backed Vulture

Range: Throughout Africa

Conservation Status: Common but on the decline.

Habitat: Savannah and open woodland to near desert.

Diet: Carrion (dead animals)

Other Information: These are the most common african vulture and can be seen in great numbers around the carcasses of dead mammals. When feeding the vultures risk being predated upon by animals such as lions and as a defence will play dead until the threat looses interest.
